Building and demolition waste in the UK (arq, volume 23, no. 1, 2019)

Construction is by far the largest material-consuming activity in the UK. In 2016, the territory produced more than 800 kg of construction and demolition waste per person. Most of these building materials are energy intensive to produce and environmentally costly to transport. Issues around traceability, material procurement, and deconstruction are currently holding back material salvage and reuse, which could become mainstream in architecture.
