Conference by Francis Tourneur

Rotor and RotorDC are pleased to invite you to a special conference with Francis Tourneur.

The conference will present a number of stone types commonly used in Belgian buildings from 1930 to 2010. These are the architecture elements that line our public landscapes, adorn the building facades and decorate interiors. It will cover the challenges and benefits of working with stone, its historical use, and the shift towards reuse driven by ecological concerns. The presentation will include examples from the 20th century, highlighting Belgian and imported stones, and discuss the heritage value of stones no longer quarried, including the proposal for a conservatory for ancient materials.

Francis Tourneur is a geologist and historian, and one of the finest experts on natural stone in construction. For years, he was also the secretary general of the quarries federation Pierre & Marbres de Wallonies.

This event is part of RotorDC’s research project, RE-STONE, which aims to develop construction products from reclaimed natural stone slabs. More info on their website.

Following the presentation, you are invited to continue the discussion over a shared drink.

Date: 26 September 2024. The talk is set to begin at 17:30 on our site located on Avenue de Bâle 3, 1140 Evere

As the number of places is limited, please register your presence here.
