Study on the recipients used to collect and transport wastes and how these influence sorting practices

Commissioned by the Brussels environmental administration IBGE, this study looks at how building and demolition wastes (BDW) are transported from the place where they are produced to their final treatment. The starting point of the study is the realisation that many BDW are quite homogenous when produced (for instance cutting edges of one specific material) but then subsequently get more and more mixed as they migrate from one recipient to the next in the process of evacuating the waste from the building site. The report lists potential design improvements to the recipients (namely the standard 20m3 containers that are most common in use in Brussels) and lists hindrances for the implementation of revised designs.

Full report (in french) available upon motivated request.
